On November 14, 2023 Starfish Stories Publishing released its first annual anthology project: A collection of stories that bears witness to the extraordinary lives of stories of ordinary women. We intend to use this project to cultivate safe and sacred spaces for women to share their lives with one another and the world.
In this special blog series, it is our honor to introduce these women to you 🙂
Judith Labert
Medford, OR. United States.
Why did you decide to participate in this project?
I wanted to expand my story and my reach. I did a book collaboration that came out in 2021 and it helped me on my healing journey and to get my story out there.
In one sentence, what is your chapter about?
Holistic healing and the need for self-care and understanding.
Who do you hope reads your chapter? Who is your chapter written for?
My chapter/story is for all the burned-out or nearing burn-out moms who feel overworked and who don’t even realize the depth of the work that needs to be done to heal, find balance, and enjoy life again and be the woman that God designed them to be. There is balance, healing, and faith in the journey.
What impact do you think your chapter will have on our readers’ lives?
I pray that people will be empowered to explore, heal, and grow. That they will break outside their norm to be more, to be all they are created for.
What have you learned about yourself from participating in this project?
While my story is my own, it’s not unique in that many others are on similar journeys… the biggest difference is that I have the tools to work through a lot of the healing that not everyone has. That’s how I can support more women like me.
If you could go back in time, and give your 10-year-old self some advice, encouragement, or wisdom, what would you want her to know?
Speak up! Speak your truth and embody the healing sooner.
Why do you think other women should consider participating in a project/experience like this one?
Telling your story, as well as getting to know the others who participate, is a unique and sacred journey. Embracing your story and being brave enough to share and be vulnerable is powerful.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Color Purple. (Book and movie)
